"There's nothing interesting when I'm posted at the gates" - I think to myself - "Just last week, Gunther had an entire caravan with plagued merchants" - I kick a small pebble beside the foundation of the gate-tower - "And before that, Ilan had a necromancer giving off riddels and turning anyone into a zombie if they got the answer wrong." - I sit on the pediment crossing my arms, hugging the half meter spear - "Just nothing for me..." - and I resume into whistling an old tune, my grandmother taught me.
"Nedar!!!" - someone shouted my name from above. And as I look up it was Tayr, another guardsman.
"What is it?" - I shout back, a little anoyed, because I started to enjoy the song I was whistling.
"There's someone coming!!" - he answered back in a rather enthusiastic manner.
"Oh, really?" - I got up and streched myself to try and see what or who was coming - "I don't see anything, Tayr." - I raise my head towards him - "Are you sure?" - and I quickly added - "Tayr have you been drinking ale again?" - and I toss a grinn in the expresion.
"No, Nedar!" - he wasn't pleased of my accusation - "Just wait a little. He's over the hill now." - I continued to grinn and take a few steps from under the gate tower walking into the sunshine. I look up and partially close my eyes because of the sun.
"Still nothing, Tayr" - quickly raising my hand to give my sun invaded eyes a relief.
"Have patience his nearly over the hill." - what was wierd, his eyes were wide and he actually looked scared. "Bah, new blood." - I was thinking. Turning my head towards the guard and smiled to give him confidence, but as my head turned I saw the thing. A giant wolf with a rider upon it.
"Jymun!" - I shouted to my fellow guardsman. The one at the bottom of the gate-tower. - "Get over here! Imediatly!" - he stormed out trying to tie his helmet and somewhat clumsy trying to hold his spear under his arm.
"What? Barbarians? Lizardmen? DRAGONS ?!!?!" - he readied his spear. I just pointed to the wolf rider. - "Good enough." - he said in a bold manner, still holding an atack stance. I just tilted my spear just a little to the front. As the wolf walked near us I shouted.
"Whoa there!!! What buisness do you have here, Wolf Rider!"

My eyes were wide open and rather courious of the wolf rider.
"Tayr!" - I shout to the guradsman upon the tower.
"Yes ! What is it Nedar?" - he replied imediatly.
"Go to our baracks and fetch the healer here." - I didn't even want to turn my attention from the rider, still no trusting the rider or the mount, the mount expecially. - "And call captain Erhart here on the double."
"I'm going..." - he said in a enthusiastic youthful manner. I didn't have much knowledge of animals but I could sense that the mount was not desiring to hurt me or Jymun. So I take another step.
"What are you doing, Nedar?" - Jymun asked nervously. I dismiss him with a hand sign. I draw closer to observe the animal response. Jymun followed me, he was brave but not an overley curious man.

A young woman burst from the gates, her bright blue eyes flashing concern as soon as she saw the man laying on the ground. She darted past the two guards, quickly taking stock of the strangers codrey of wounds.
"Who is he?" she asked, all business despite her age. The two men simply shrugged. Focusing her attention on the man she scrutinized his every inch, being certain to catch every detail for her spellcasting. "He looks.. elvish."
The two men bristled immediately, "An elf!"
"No. Just elvish," she seemed to shrug off their concerned glares and began to chant, not giving the soldiers a chance to object. Slowly, the life's blood of magic pooled around her hands, spilling across the unconscious man's body, white light enveloped him.
"What in the Highfather's name is going on?" came a muddle voice from behind the soldiers. The two men spun to see Erhart storm from the gates. The man was broad in both shoulders and belly with a thick tawny mustache. He wore an expression behind his crisp captain's uniform that was less pomp, more circumstance that only reflected his glower, accented by a jagged scar that streched up from his cheek and across the bridge of his nose.

"Captain !" - I turned quickly to greet our leader - "This elfish looking fellow... "- I paused just for a moment, thinking about what the acolyte said, me myself haven't seen an elf for a long time - "Stumbled near our gate on that wolf and asked for help, he doesn't look like he means harm ..." - I continued my report.

The captain stared down at the man, as the healer helped him slowly to his feet. Erhart wasn't one to ignore the implications of an elf, or someone elvish. He glanced at the man trying to assess him, weighing him by his appearance, his demeanor. "Who are you stranger? And what are you doing in Demosthene?"

Erhart glared at the stranger before barking at the two guards, "Take him to the keep, get him some food and water. I'll speak with him at length in a moment."
The two men saluted and helped the man to his feet, doing their best to ignore the wolf's growls as it shifted its eyes from its master to Erhart, to the two men. Finally as the guards helped the halfling into the city, the wolf seemed to accept the aid and padded quietly behind them.
As soon as they were out of earshot Erhart turned to the healer, "Did you see anything that might indicate he is in league with the Alliance?"
She dutifully shook her head, "The sword he carries has some latent magic in it, but nothing that should give too much alarm. He seems to me to be a young mage, maybe more. But nothing that would lead me to believe that he is a spy."
The captain grunted, glaring out across the hills surrounding Demosthene, "Double the watch, and let the villagers know to be ready should an attack appear. I will send word to Abrissel, see if they have heard of this Chirando. But until I have some evidence, I will not ignore my duty to the Highfather. We have to honor a man looking for hospitality, but heaven help him if he abuses that trust."

Nedar walking by Chirando. "A chest you say?" - I turn my head towards the man-elf not expecting a response - "I think we can do that also. When we're in the keep will give it to Tayr to take it to the Armory." - I take a couple of steps and then continue - "Is that alright?"

"Don't worry, in the armory it will have it's own chest with a double key, one goes to captn' Erhart over there and one is given to you." - as I walked with the new visitor tyo our little piece of Nevadaar I caught with the edge of my eye the wolf, the man-elfs mount, walking close behind its master - "So what do you want to do with it..." - I point to the beast - "... I mean a keep is not a place for a wolf."
[ooc]The healer is behind you, still speaking to Captain Erhart. Nedar, although is the commander of that particular shift of guards went along to get more soldiers from the baracks[/ooc]

Nedar, Tayr and Chirando were not far away from the capitan and the gate. So Nedar whisteled back to his captain to get his attention:
"Captain Erhart, sir!" - I shouted - "Should we let the wolf get out. We just can't keep him in Town." - waiting for his answer I observe the man-elfs attempt at hideing his elvish features.
"I think you can hide them better with a hat." - I smile as if a joke was said to a brother-in-arms.

"Magic you say?" - Nedar said near Chirando, waiting for Captains response. "Come to think of it, saw a magician three months ago in North Hill Fair. He juggeled with small balls of fire and recited the entire Ballad of Feroneus flawlessly." - I then look at the man-elf - "Say, you can ..." - I pause for a minute thinking - "I mean you can make tricks in our market square. And... we can charge people for that...." - I measure the posibilities silently.

"Marvelous !" - I exalted at the man-elfs openess to my plan - "I'll see if we can get you an audience to the local grand inqusitor and get a license for you to practice magic inside Demosthene." - the man-elf, Nedar and Tayr find themselfs holding their position and silent. Nedar, raised his hand and shouted:
"Capt'n ! What are we gonna do about the wolf ?!"

Nedar looked at the wolf.
"The North Stables could house him... no one uses them anymore, you can keep him company there if you like. The problem is that conditions are tot lavish, actually the place is almost a ruin. But I just can't think of a better place to house both you and the ... be.a..s .... wolf." - Nedar turned his gaze upon Chirando - "Well have to see what capt'n Erhart says?"

Nedar gave off a friendly smile.
"It belongs to somebody already its just that they don't care about it anymore. With the owner you shall have to discuss concerning any refurbishments."

"You can stay in my keep," Erhart muttered as he walked up behind the group. "And your wold can stay in my personal stables. I have a war stallion that isn't spooked by such things. Besides I'd rather keep you close so that I can deal with you should your claims prove to be.. less than ernest. As far as the Inquisitor, there is one down in Norimar that can be here in two days. But I'd like to here from Abriss--"
"Captain!" an archer yelled, running like a frantic child towards the city leader. "Orcs! Coming this way from the East."
"Damn!" Erhart swore, "fetch my stallion and my sword! You two," he grunted at the two guards, "get back to your posts and ready to defend the gate." His eyes flashed at Chirando, then quickly dismissed the idea of the halfling helping orcs, "If you want to show your loyalty to the Empire, I'd suggest you help. That is if you're strong enough."
[MT]
Good RPing, Chirando gets 100 XP which should boost him to level 2. And Marko, take an extra 100 XP for one of your characters for your help. Chirando has a choice to either hide while the orcs attack, or he can join in the defense. If he decides to aid the city, he can have a pair of Man-at-Arms to help him fight off two Goblins and an Orc.

"Yes sir!" - saluted Nedar and Tayr near him. "Tayr go to the barracks and bring the men. I'll go organize the ones that are already at the gates." - ordered Nedar, while the young Tayr just nodded and began to run towards the barracks.
[OOC] Thanks for the gift.... Now let's see what Chirando picks so I can play another NPC... [/OOC]
