A budding town found on the border between civilization and life in the wild, Myrthraheal was built around the Magic College by the same name. Built into an existing glade, many of the buildings of Myrthraheal are built into the trees, either up against them on the floor of the glade, or up in their branches. From a distance the buildings are barely noticeable, blending in with the natural greenery of the glade.
The town is run by Vaalyun, who also heads the Magic College, and while he makes sure to protect the town from those who may be out to harm it, he is eager to welcome all others.

"Old friend, as much as I value your opinion, my mind has been made." Vaalyun spoke calmly, but there was a certain firmness to his voice that gave the statement all the authority that it needed. "I'm sorry, but I just don't see the need to seclude ourselves like that."
"But the residents...the children...," Adamar continued, hoping that he could somehow sway the Grovemancer, "Myrthraheal needs a stronger defense. We can't just leave the city sitting in the glade like this. We need boundaries, a way to keep those who should be here inside, and those who shouldn't be here out there."
"Adamar," Vaalyun said with a sly smile, "Do you really take me for a fool? Did I not allow you to set aside an open field to train more Centaur Lancers? And what of the Scout Tower? These were all built to help protect the city, all following your advice. But I have to put my foot down at the idea of separating Myrthraheal from 'out there' as you put it."
"But..." Adamar started, before Vaalyun held up a hand, silencing him.
"I'm not finished yet. Myrthraheal was built to be one with nature, and that's how it will remain. Just because I refuse to put up physical barriers doesn't mean no barriers will be protecting this city. As we speak, one of my finest students is overseeing the completion of a Warding Circle."
Adamar frowned slightly, "Are you sure that you shouldn't be the one working the magic for the circle? One mistake by that student could cost all of Myrthraheal."
"I said the student was overseeing the completion, I was the one who laid the groundwork of the spell, the rest is easy, mostly just adding in the anchor to hold the circle in place." Vaalyun smiled, "Do not worry, I will do everything in my power to keep this city safe."
"Of course you will," Adamar said, slightly flustered, "I had meant no disrespect. I should have known better than to second guess you. After all, they put you in charge of your own College for a reason."
"Don't feel too bad, after all, I put you in charge of my city's defense for a reason."
Suddenly, there was a loud knock at the wooden door, and then before either could respond, a younger mage burst through into the chamber. "My apologies for interrupting, but you had said you wanted me to report to you as soon as the Warding Circle was completed."
Vaalyun nodded, "I did indeed. Adamar, this is the Adept I was telling you about, Thallan. Thallan, Adamar is the centaur I mentioned, the one in charge of our city's defenses."
"Nice to meet you," Adamar said, bowing slightly, as is customary in centaur tradition, and then turned to Vaalyun, "I thought you said you put a student in charge? Isn't he a bit older than your current students?"
"Yes I did, and yes he is. Thallan had already completed his training to become an Adept, and agreed to help teach the youngest students in exchange for being able to study with me personally. Turned out to be quite the bargain, he's proven to be an excellent teacher."
"Thank you sir." Thallan took a step closer to the pair, "I've heard good things about your work Adamar. I sleep safer knowing that you and your men are watching out for us." Adamar nodded in thanks, deciding that in this case, actions would speak just as well as words.
"Well, enough of this idle chit chat." Vaalyun said, turning toward the door, "I've got some business in Temperance, would you gentlemen like to join me?"
"It would be my pleasure," Adamar said, "And this way I can ensure you don't get yourself killed. One of my men can make sure everything continues to go smoothly."
Thallan nodded eagerly, "Most certainly, will it just be us three?"
"Not quite," A voice echoed down the stairway near the door Vaalyun had opened. "After all, someone should make sure you boys don't let your big mouths get you in trouble."

"Are you sure that all of us going to war is the best idea," Adamar spoke quickly, trotting quickly to keep up with his superior, "I know it had been my idea for us to go, but I had only intended myself and a few of the centaurs who are doing well in training and perhaps one of the scouts if you could spare them. I know you might want to fight for our people as well, but think of Myrthraheal, the city will be left defenseless once again. I beg of you to reconsider."
"My mind is made dear friend," Vaalyun replied, "If my memory serves me, you had similar qualms about leaving for the city, did you not? And did Myrthraheal not survive? In fact it grew in our absence. Under Thallan's orders, the city constructed a Nature's School, and nothing bad happened in our absence. I know it seems like just yesterday Myrthraheal wasn't even a city, just a small College, but that's changing. Besides, I'd hardly say that the city is defenseless, we've managed to train quite the garrison to defend the city in our leave."
"Yes, Gantar is a capable fighter, and the Scouts are skilled, but..."
"You have such little faith in me," Vaalyun said, cutting his old friend off, "The Aviary I told you of earlier was completed while we were away; just before we returned the were able to hatch a Griffin. They grow quickly and ours has already been put through training. It won't be long before it too can help defend our city. If it would make you feel more comfortable leaving, we can look into adding an Inner Temple to the Temple. That way if the unthinkable should happen, Myrthraheal will stand a better chance, as our gravely wounded can be restored to fight once more."
"Those things do help me feel more confident," Adamar nodded, hesitating, "However, if it is not out of my place to ask, why are you insisting that it be the four of us who go? Surely Myrthraheal could offer a better party to go to war. You and Thallan could stay here, and I can take the Griffin, another Centaur, and one or two others?"
"You are, of course, right about that, as I would hope the head of my city's defenses would be. However, there are other reasons for us going to war beyond the obvious ones of taking out as many of the enemy as we can before returning to our city. Even if you had not seen the declaration, we still would be heading for the Tainted Lands. If you recall, I had a reason for visiting the city, it wasn't simply a sight-seeing expedition."
"Of course you did, I assumed if that information was for me to know, you would share it with me."
"You assumed correctly, as such, I would appreciate it if the slaying of the Horde remained the reason for our travels, as far as everyone else is concerned. I will share the rest of the reasons in due time, and I assure you that they will bring no harm to any of you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I would like to spend some time in our newest school before we head out again. I have a feeling I could gain some useful knowledge for the journey ahead."
With that, Vaalyun turned abruptly down a side street, disappearing from Adamar's view just before he opened the doors of the Nature's School, whose resounding slam echoed down the street.
